Back to School!

Back to school! Here's some of my recent work for my Lighting Class. The first image is of star trails done through a photo stacking technique. The second is using a strobe where I'm trying to play with a subject who is both opaque and transparent..all effects done in camera. The last is a housemaster technique using a soft focus and a snoot to light the subject...once again all effects done in camera.

More to come!!

What Draws You to a Photo?

These are photographs I took of my Dad and my Nephew. All black and white film. The first one I printed in the darkroom was the one of Johann's hands on my dad's face. I looked down at the photo and thought "these pictures are important". It felt good. Soon I started questioning the validity of that thought. Are these photos important because they're great photos of a grandpa and grandson? Or are they important because they're of my family. My fault as a photographer may be differentiating between photos of people I love and photos I love.

Come together....right now....over me

The finished Product!

This first one was done by taking a series of photos at different times throughout the day. The camera remained in the same position but the subject moved. How successful it was is probably questionable, but I really like the final design of the piece.

This one is a lot better. Each image is mounted on foamcore before being attached to the one below it. My message here is on diversity. How we all preserve our own identities but are capable of coming together as a whole. Working, living and existing by accepting our differences.

Worker Bee!

Like a good little art student, I got home and STRAIGHT TO WORK.

I practiced making composite photographs by cutting up magazines and piecing them together

These were my results!
This last one is definitely the best!

Inspiration!

This is my inspiration for my next Photography assignment. It's a photograph by Mary Ellen Mark and I'm absolutely in love with it. I emailed a local senior center to try and get in there as soon as possible!

Also In order to expand my horizons I plan on trying something new called a Composite Photo. I will be photographing the faces of a variety of people in order to create this photo. Here is an example of the end result:

I'm not sure who exactly the artist is in this case but I am very impressed by the work!

Horror Story: Bathroom

This is some of my newest work from class. I'm planning on entering the last two in a couple of art shows! All are done in black and white film. Excuse the quality of some- the scans weren't perfection.
